Introduction
Track ratings and play counts are essential for smart playlists and music recommendations.
If those values exist on your iPhone but are missing in iTunes, iExplorer can restore them from your device metadata.
What you will need
- iExplorer
- An iPhone, iPad, or iPod
- USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
- A Mac or PC with iTunes or the Apple Music app installed

Step-by-step instructions
Quick Steps
- Open iExplorer and connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
- If iTunes asks to sync, click No or Cancel.
- Open Music or Media Library.
- Use Auto Transfer → Auto-Recover All Ratings and Play Counts.
The recovery process updates existing iTunes tracks with metadata from your device. It does not duplicate or recopy audio files.
Depending on your library size, recovery may take several minutes. When complete, ratings and play counts in iTunes should match your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
